Glaze chemistry and application

SERIES OF CLASSES

This exciting class will explore the theory, crafting, and successful application of glaze. Students will create test tiles, formulate their own test glazes, examine results, and adjust recipes accordingly. Flocculation and specific gravity concepts will be explored. Two classes will include instruction and discussion of different methods of applying glaze. Students will practice applying both Claymates studio glazes and their own glaze tests on bisqueware. In the final week, participants will view and discuss their glazed pieces, and create a batch of their favourite test glaze to take home and keep.

Materials that Claymates will be providing/lending:

• Disposable KN95 masks
• Scales
• Containers
• Gloves
• Sieves 
• All dry materials
• All clay

Please provide yourself:

• 6 pieces of cone 6 bisqueware to practice glaze application methods
• A P100 mask if you already own one (if you don’t, use one of our KN95s)
• A notebook
• An apron or towel
• Any mason stains you are super interested in using (optional)

Cancellation policy:
We require at least 7 days’ notice via email before the first session to cancel or to transfer to another class. After this point, no refunds, credits, or rescheduling are available. A $50 administration fee applies to all cancellations. However, if you choose a credit instead of a refund, this fee is waived. Please note that by registering, you accept the risk that you may be ill or injured on the day of your class. As a small business, we cannot offer refunds or rescheduling for last-minute illness or injury.
