This isn’t your usual hand building class! Rather than creating functional pieces like dinnerware or home goods, this class focuses on creating sculptural pieces, using different reference materials to work towards that elusive trompe d’oeil 🤌 Techniques used will include coil building, soft slab building, extruded forms, and sculpting from mass. Emphasis will be placed on how to achieve the desired proportions, surface, and texture for your sculptures. While the focus will be on mimicking reference materials, students are also welcome to make more abstract work.
Students can expect to take home 4-6 pieces in a 6-week class. All materials and use of studio tools are included. Please provide your own apron or towel. For extra practice, student drop-ins are available on Saturday mornings for $25.
Skill level: This class is appropriate for all levels; you could be new to clay, or more experienced.
