This technique-forward class will dive into surface decoration on a deeper level. Not only will students create new projects and develop new skills, but they will also create physical tools in class that can be taken home and used for future surface exploration. Most weeks will involve multiple demonstrations during a supported working period.
Specific techniques covered will include: Stamp making, faceting, throwing and altered forms, sgrafitto techniques, inlay, underglaze demystification, limited colour pochoir, underglaze decal making, mono printing, water carving, and advanced glaze application methods.
Students can expect to take home 4-6 pieces in a 6-week class. All materials and use of studio tools are included. Please provide your own apron or towel. For extra practice, student drop-ins are available on Saturday mornings for $25.
Skill level: Previous clay experience is required, either in wheel or hand building. If you have both, even better! Since this class focuses on surfaces, students should be comfortable creating forms independently which can then be used as blank canvases to decorate.
Cancellation policy:
We require 7 days notice to cancel any class or event. Notice must be given via email. After this point, refunds, credits, and rescheduling are not possible. A $50 administration fee applies to all cancellations, regardless of time frame. If you choose a credit rather than a refund, the admin fee is waived.
Cancellations due to illness or injury:

While we understand that illness and injury are outside of your control, they are also outside of ours. We are a small business, and we are not able to give refunds or reschedule due to last-minute illness or injury. If you are sick, please do not attend your class. For clay dates, you are welcome to send friends in your place.
