Lustre firing drop-off

Taught by Felix Thomas (they/them)
November 11, 2026 10:00 am ยท 30 minutes
This firing is available to current Claymates monthly members only. Members, please log in before registering.

Elevate your handmade ceramics with gold lustre details!

Each registration indicates up to one cubic foot of pieces. If you have more pieces than this, just let us know. If the firing is full, we may have to put some pieces in a second firing.

Members provide their own lustre, which can be purchased at pottery supply stores. We recommend using only yellow gold or white gold; mother of pearl won't work at the same temperature. Here's an example of what to purchase.

Lustre overglaze is applied at to fully finished/glazed ware. Make sure it isn't applied too thick and isn't dripping -- this can result in a "fish eye" defect where a crack or separation exposes the glaze below. Overglaze is sticky, and if you get fingerprints on your piece, they might show up after the firing, so take care!

Please apply your lustre at home in a ventilated space, as the fumes are quite strong. If you need to apply at the studio, please sit outside.

Once finished, lustre fired work should not be used in the dishwasher or microwave.

The lustre kiln will be loaded on November 13. Please drop off your painted work anytime on November 11 or 12.
